Newsipal ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our service.

By using Newsipal, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Email address
• Name (if provided via Google sign-in)
• Profile picture (if provided via Google sign-in)

Preferences & Settings

To personalize your experience, we store:

• Your briefing sections and content preferences
• AI tone, verbosity, persona, and language settings
• Delivery schedule, frequency, and timezone
• Delivery channel choices (e.g. email, Telegram, Discord)
• News source filter preferences (allowlist/blocklist)
• Bookmarked briefing items
• Theme and display preferences (stored locally in your browser)

Usage Data

We collect minimal usage data to improve the service:

• When you access the service (for delivery scheduling)
• Error logs (to diagnose and fix issues)
• Push notification tokens (Android app only, used to send Nip delivery alerts)

Payment Information

Payment processing depends on platform. Web subscriptions are handled by Lemon Squeezy, and Android in-app subscriptions are handled by Google Play. We do not store your full credit card numbers or banking information on our servers. The applicable payment provider's privacy policy governs the payment data they collect and process.

We use your information to:

• Generate your personalized daily briefings
• Deliver briefings at your scheduled time
• Process your subscription and payments
• Send important service-related communications
• Respond to your support requests
• Improve and optimize the service
• Protect against fraud and abuse

We believe in respecting your privacy. We do not:

• Sell your data — We never sell your personal information to third parties
• Track you across the web — We don't use third-party advertising trackers
• Read your briefings — Your generated content is yours; we don't analyze it for marketing
• Share your preferences — Your topic choices stay between you and our AI
• Send unsolicited marketing — We only email you about your service

We share your information only in these limited circumstances:

• Service Providers: We use Supabase for authentication and database hosting, Google's Gemini API for content generation, Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) for push notifications on Android, and Lemon Squeezy or Google Play for subscription billing depending on platform. These providers have access only to data necessary to perform their functions.
• Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or in response to valid legal requests.
• Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, user data may be transferred. We will notify you of any such change.

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data:

• All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS)
• Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text
• Database access is restricted and monitored
• We use Supabase's Row Level Security to ensure users can only access their own data

However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We retain your data as follows:

• Active Accounts: Data is retained while your account is active
• Cancelled Subscriptions: Cancelling renewal does not automatically delete your account data. We may retain your account details, settings, and briefing history until you delete your account or request deletion.
• Account Deletion: When you complete our verified deletion flow, we delete your account and associated application data from our primary systems, subject to any retention required by applicable law.
• Generated Briefings: We may retain current and recent briefing history associated with your account to provide in-app history and access features. Those records are removed when your account is deleted.

You have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you
• Correction: Update or correct your personal information
• Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Export: Request a copy of the data we hold about you by contacting us
• Withdraw Consent: Opt out of optional data processing

Newsipal uses cookies and browser local storage to make the service work:

• Authentication: Supabase stores your session token to keep you logged in
• Local preferences: Theme, font size, accent color, and layout choices are stored in your browser's local storage so they persist across sessions

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking cookies, or analytics cookies that identify individuals.

Newsipal is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

Your information may be processed on servers located outside your country of residence. By using Newsipal, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries that may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by email or through the Service. Your continued use of Newsipal after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
